The IRS launched Get My Payment portal on its website yesterday (April 15) to allow taxpayers to check the status of the stimulus money promised to them in the CARES Act.
Not surprisingly, the website experienced extremely heavy traffic and delays on its first day of operation. While some visitors were able to get their information, others encountered the cryptic message, “Payment Status Not Available.”
According to the IRS, the message could mean that you are not eligible for the stimulus funds, which could amount to as much as $1,200 per taxpayer.
Everything’s a bit confusing right now, so you might want to keep checking the site. But the IRS advises that the site is updated only once per day, so apparently there is no use checking multiple times during the same day.
The IRS added that “more information will be shared on IRS.gov shortly on some common questions taxpayers are asking.”
