
Last month, Congress passed the $2.2 trillion CARES Act in an effort to stimulate the U.S. economy battered and reeling from the spread of covid-19. The legislation included provisions for a one-time “economic impact payment” amounting to $1,200 for most taxpayers.
Today, the Treasury Department launched the Get My Payment webpage to allow taxpayers to track the status of their payment. Stimulus funds either will be mailed out or deposited directly into taxpayers’ bank accounts.
In ordinary times, today would be the dreaded “Tax Day.” But due to the extraordinary circumstances, the due date for filing 2019 tax returns and payments has been pushed back to July 15.
New Jersey’s tax-filing deadline also has been extended to July 15.
